Two persons died after a diesel-laden tanker crashed and exploded at Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State on Tuesday.
It was gathered that the driver of the truck, with number plate DTM 109 XA, lost control while going toward Ogun State.
Eyewitness said the driver crashed the truck against the railings of the long bridge, causing the diesel-laden vehicle to overturned while its head fell into the ditch after scaling the railing.
The head of the trailer fell off the bridge and thereafter, bursted into flames and killing two out of the three occupant of the vehicle.
The trailer spilled its content on the expressway, but emergency responders, including men of the Ogun State Fire Service, were on standby to avert any form of disaster resulting from the spilled diesel.
The accident resulted inheavy gridlock along the axis, extending to the Berger bus stop.
The policemen and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State were also seen at the scene of the incident, as they controlled the traffic.
The Ogun State Commandant of the FRSC, Ahmed Umar, said it was a lone crash caused by a speed violation and loss of control.
“Obviously, the driver must have been speeding.
“The trailer had three occupants, one survived and two others were trapped and burnt to death.
“Men of the Ogun State Fire Service were able to put out the fire, but the detached head was too hot to ascertain the extent of the damage,” Umar said.
