Akpabio fails to honour EFCC invitation over N40bn fraud

Godswill Akpabio, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, on Wednesday, failed to honour the invitation of the EFCC for health reasons.

Akpabio was invited by the EFCC over a petition alleging abuse of office and misappropriation of N40 billion at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Akpabio’s lawyer, Umeh Kalu, gave poor health as the reason for his inability to meet the appointment on March 29.

Kalu explained that his client’s absence was due to an ongoing arrangement to relocate him overseas for a medical appointment.

“As mentioned in our last letter to you dated Feb. 10, our client is undergoing treatment for pneumonia and cardiac arrhythmia.

“And he has recently been advised to seek further attention abroad.

“It is in light of the above, that we respectfully request that our client’s appointment with you be rescheduled to a date convenient to your officers.

“Preferably after the forthcoming Easter and Ramadan holidays.

“This request is in no way intended to disrespect your high office.

“This is, as we regret every conceivable inconvenience that our request will occasion on you and your team of operatives.

“Please accept the assurances of our professional regards, while thanking you for your understanding,” Umeh wrote.
