The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) of planning to rig the local government election in favour of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

TheNewsZenith reports that APC made the allegation at a press conference on Saturday in Bauchi.

It alerted that it received a report that both the state government and its commission were making efforts to scuttle the credibility of the exercise.

The party’s Legal Advisor, Rabiu Garba, read a statement signed by the APC state chairman to newmen.

“About 12 hours before the commencement of the Saturday poll, we observed that BASIEC failed to provide adequate sensitive and non-sensitive election materials.

“There were insufficient ballot papers and result sheets at designated voting centres across the state.

“We gathered from credible sources and have reason to believe that BASIEC intends to announce election results while voting is in progress.

“This is unacceptable and a clear attempt to undermine the democratic process.

“Our party is unaware of the identities of the presiding officers, collation officers and returning officers for the election.

“This despite having served the commission with an official Demand Letter in that regard.

“In fact, this raises serious questions on the transparency and credibility of the election process,” APC claimed.

Garba added that BASIEC has consistently schemed out APC in almost all the meetings with critical stakeholders concerning the election.

“APC would not accept the outcome of any election that is marred by such irregularities and shady elections.

“We called on the BASIEC to conduct a transparent, free and fair election that reflects the will of the people of Bauchi State.
