Officials of Colmar City have confirmed 11 people dead, on Wednesday, following a fire earlier in the day at a holiday home for disabled people in Wintzenheim, northeastern France.
Nathalie Kielwasser, deputy prosecutor of Colmar, said all people sleeping on ground floor of the two-storey building managed to escape.
Five of those who lived on the first floor also came out safe. In total, rescuers evacuated 17 people.

Kielwasser said a slow-burning flame “probably” caused the fire. She added that it could have taken hours before the wooden structure actually got engulfed in flames.
The fire broke out at around 6.30 a.m. local time and was quickly brought under control.
The building was hosting a group of disabled people, who were visiting from Nancy City in French. (Xinhua)
