Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has broken the jinx on reconstruction of two roads in water-locked communities by performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the projects, on Monday.
TheNewsZenith reports that for about 50 years, the communities have pleaded with previous administrations to rehabilitate the roads without success.
Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, in a statement said the government earmarked N5 billion for the projects.
Contracts for the two roads cover a total of about 30 kilometers.
Mohammed noted the communities had remained without a motorable road since 1973.
Accordint to him, Karasuwa-Galu community had sought for extension of the Gashua-Nguru federal road project to the village without success.
Similarly, residents of Masaba community had sought for construction of a road to link their ancient village with other communities from previous administrations but remained without a motorable road.

Performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the two roads today, Gov. Buni, assured the communities of his administration’s commitment to re-construct the roads.
He believed that the the roads would open up the communities for socio-economic development.
The governor directed the contractors to execute the projects in accordance with the contractual specifications.
Buni noted that the directive was apt for the government to have value for its money.
He charged the State Ministry of Works to ensure efficient and effective supervision of the projects for quality delivery.
