The Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has established 147 basic and post-basic schools in 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Chairperson, Education Committee of FOMWAN, Dr Lateefa Durosinmi announced this at the inauguration of its 2023 Annual Education Summit on Thursday in Bauchi.
The NewsZenith reports that the theme of the summit is, “Empowering the Umma with Information and Communication Technologies Knowledge”.
Durosinmi said the summit was a deliberate attempt towards sensitising and mobilising the Muslim community to prioritise education.
She stressed the importance of education on the social, economic, political, scientific and technological advancement of society.
According to her, education remains a tool for poverty eradication and human development.
The chairperson added that FOMWAN had been engaged in developing and providing access to education.

“We have 147 nurseries, primary and secondary schools, 2,500 Qur’anic centres, 60 adult literacy classes, skill acquisition centres, vocational and ICT centres to provide education for development.
“The association is concerned about the rising number of out-of-school children.
“And we believe that there should be a sustainable strategic plan to reduce the figure,” she said.
Durosinmi also advocated for the introduction of functional literacy and numeracy activities in non-formal Quranic schools.
Also speaking, Dr Sumaye Hamza, Deputy National Chairperson of FOMWAN, said effective implementation of ICT “is critical to youth empowerment”.
