A former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has called for more commitment from the Federal Government toward ending banditry so as to achieve national development.
To achieve that, Bafarawa said curbing banditry would also enhance food security in the country
He made the appeal while fielding questions from newsmen on Sunday in Sokoto.
“The government needs to focus more on security for farmers to be able to go to farm without any intimidation or fear of attack.
“As we are all aware, food security is the key to our survival. But at present, our people cannot even attempt to go to the farm.
“So, as for us, our responsibility is to inform the leaders that our people’s priority is simply how to get food.

“Let the government put necessary measures in place to enhance security for our farmers,” he said.
The former PDP governor also appealed to the government to invest more in education.
“Our children’s education, most especially in the banditry-prone areas, has continued to remain a great source of concern.
“The number of out-of-school children is at an alarming rate.
“The government need to take necessary steps to address the menace,” he appealed.
