TheNewsZenith reports that the Executive Director of the foundation, Prince Sulaimon Olagunju, announced this at a media parley in Lagos.

“For 25 years, we have distributed Zakat across 27 states in Nigeria, ensuring transparency and inclusivity in the process.

During this period, we have disbursed N2,311,426,262 naira to 28,090 direct beneficiaries.

“These have transformed lives and uplifting communities through targeted financial assistance and empowerment initiatives.

“These achievements reaffirm the enduring relevance of Zakat and Sadaqat as powerful tools for social justice and wealth redistribution.

“We take immense pride in the successes of our programmes.

“These programmes have transformed countless lives and reinforced the need for continued charitable giving.

“Over the past 25 years, the Foundation has been at the forefront of humanitarian service, demonstrating the transformative power of Zakat and Sadaqat in fostering social and economic equity.

``Our impact has been deeply felt through 15 major socio-economic services that have brought hope and empowerment to countless lives across Nigeria,” TheNewsZenith quotes Olagunju as saying.

These services ranged from poverty alleviation programmes, education support, health initiatives, orphan and widows’ support to dawah and Islamic advocacy.

It also includes Community Development, feeding fasting Muslims and sharing inheritance according to Islamic principles among other services.

While celebrating its past, Olagunju said the foundation remains ever mindful of the future.

The need for humanitarian interventions continues to grow, and we must rise to the challenge with renewed energy and strategic innovation.

Also speaking, the pioneer Executive Director of the foundation, Dr Shuaib Abdullahi, recalled that the Z&S’s relationship with the media, at the beginning, “was that of convenience and not of conviction”.

Abdullah, however, noted that the situation changed after about ten years of its operations when the media practitioners began to understand the essence of zakat work.

He lamented the practice of story syndication among journalists, which most times, provides a single angle or perspective to the event’s coverage.

“This does not portray the media professionals in good light,” Abdullah said.

He appealed to the media professionals at the parley to develop a communication plan for the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation.

This, according to him, will further guide its media engagements and communication strategies.

In his welcome address, the Chairman, Board of Directors, Professor Tajudeen Yusuf, said the vision of the organisation was to institutionalise a charity that would bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.

According to him, the successes recorded by the foundation became possible through collective faith, determination and unity of purpose. (TNZ)
