The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has sacked the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Adamawa State, Mr Hudu Yinusa Ari.
Mr Festus Oloye, INEC’s Chairman of Information and Voters Education Committee, announced the development in a statement on Monday.
In the two-paragraph statement, Okoye said the sacking of Ari takes effect from Sunday, April 16.
Consequently, the commission directed the Administrative Secretary to take over the affairs of the commission office in the state until further notice.
The statement reads: ”Following the purported declaration of the results for the Adamawa State Governorship election yesterday, Sunday, 16th April 2023, the commission has withdrawn it’s delegated powers from Barr. Hudu Yinusa Ari mni, as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state.
”Accordingly, the Commission has directed him to stay away from the commission’s office in Adamawa State forthwith.
”Meanwhile, the INEC also directed the Administrative Secretary to take over the affairs of the state office until further notice”.
The NewsZenith reports that Ari had, on Sunday morning, allegedly declared Sen. Aisha Dahiru (Binani) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the Saturday’s supplementary election in the state election.
