Insecurity: Ogunewe sues for peace in Imo

By Our Correspondent

The Labour Party gubernatorial aspirant retired Maj.-Gen. Lincoln Jack Ogunewe, has sued for peace and called for calm over the rising insecurity in Imo State.

Ogunewe made the call in Owerri at the weekend.
“I call on all Imolites and the government to condemn the killings and destruction in the state.
“Enough of the destruction and killings in the state; Imo belongs to all of us,” he said.
Ogunewe, a former Nigerian Defence Adviser to the United Nation, wondered how once a peaceful and prosperous state could be turned into a theatre of war.
He enjoined law enforcement agencies to look deep and find the root cause of the state’s insecurity to reduce it to the barest minimum.

He, therefore, urged all stakeholders in the state to be professional, reduce high-handedness and use of force.
Ogunewe also cautioned all, especially the youths, to remain calm and prayerful.
No matter the provocation, he said, illegality before the law, cannot be used to fight illegality.
“There are legal ways and means of resolving conflicts which is the negotiating table.
“We all should embrace this approach at all levels for peace to reign in Imo state,” he said.
