IsDB holds 18th global forum, AGM in Riyadh

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Institute has slated the 18th edition of its Global Forum on Islamic Finance to hold in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on April 28.

The forum will be hold alongside the IsDB Group’s Annual Meetings and Golden Jubilee Celebration.

It is organised annually as a flagship side event of the Group’s Annual Meetings. This year’s Global Forum will bring together thought leaders, policymakers, financial experts and other stakeholders in the Islamic finance industry.

They will deliberate on innovative tools to foster sustainable development.

The theme of the Forum is “Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership in Islamic Finance”.

Three financial players will deliver keynote speeches at the Forum.

They are Dr Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the IsDB Group and Dr Stephen Groff, Governor of the Saudi National Development Fund. The other is Mr Mutlaq H. Al-Morished, CEO of Tasnee Corporation.

The forum will feature the award presentation to winner of the 2024 IsDB Prize for Impactful Achievement in Islamic Economics.

Prof. Mehmet Asutay, a professor of Middle Eastern and Islamic Political Economy & Finance at Durham University, won the prize.

This is in recognition of his significant and influential contributions to Islamic economics and finance.

Subsequently, the Forum will have two sessions. The first is a panel that will explore the pivotal role of entrepreneurship in advancing sustainable development, particularly within the Islamic finance paradigm.

Panellists for the session are Mr Mohammad Abdulhameed Al-Mubarak, CEO of Madinah Knowledge Economic City and Dr Zeger Degraeve, Executive Dean of Prince Mohammed Bin Salman College (MBSC).

Others are Mr Morrad Irsane, CEO and Founder of TAKADAO; and Dr Sami Al-Suwailem, Acting Director General of the IsDB Institute.

The second session will showcase the Smart Stabilisation System (SSS), a patent-pending algorithm to enhance stability in financial markets. IsDB is developing the SSS and the blockchain company, SettleMint will implement it.

Discussants will be Mr Matthew Van Niekerk, Founder & CEO of SettleMint, and Dr Hilal Houssain, Associate Manager of Knowledge Solutions Team, IsDBI.

The Forum will also feature the launching of a new IsDBI report titled “Catalysing Social Entrepreneurship through Islamic Finance”.

The report explores the potential of Islamic finance to support social entrepreneurship and impact investing.

IsDB Global Forum, Islamic Finance, initiated in 2006, is an annual event. It is a platform for strategic policy dialogue on knowledge and innovation in Islamic finance and development.
