Lagos NUJ plans maiden Ramadan lecture

The Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) Lagos State Council is set to host Annual Ramadan lecture as s demonstration of identifying with fasting Muslims during the holy month.

The Council Chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi announced the spiritual development dimension to NUJ’s numerous programmes at s press conference on Tuesday, in Lagos.

TheNewsZenith reports that to Kickstarter the annual lecture, Adeleye has inaugurated a planning committee.

Ajayi appealed to Muslims to use the opportunity of Ramadan to pray for Nigeria to get out of present economic and social challenges.

”Let us use the Ramadan period to pray for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

”Lagos State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists identifies with the entire people of Nigeria.

”And we pray that Allah accepts all our individual and collective prayers by making the efforts our leaders are currently making yield positive results.

Elaborating on the programme, the Chairman of the planning committee, Mr Jamiu Alonge said the maiden Annual Ramadan lecture aimed at relating with Muslim faithful.

It also seek to promote acquaintance with the Holy Quran and feeding fasting Muslims.

The theme of the lecture, Alonge said, is “Islam and Sanctity of Life”. It is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, March 19, at the Combol Hall, LTV 8 premises, Agidingbi, Ikeja Lagos.

”Lagos State Council of NUJ is identifying with Muslim faithful in the spirit of the season which comprises many virtuous deeds such as feeding the poor and needy.

”It will also afford Muslim journalists to draw closer to Allah through reading and learning the Quran,” the committee chairman said.

According to him, the National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society (AUD), Sheik AbdurRahman Ahmad will speak on “LGBTQ: Protecting the sanctity of the Ummah”.

Also, the University of Lagos 2023 Best P.hD Thesis Award winner, Dr Aminat Olawunmi Ige-Ariyibi of Mathematics Department, Lagos State University, will speak on “Mitigation Against Marital Discord Occasioned by Economic Crisis.

TheNewsZenith recalls that Nigerians joined other Muslims across the world to begin the 2024 Ramadan fasting as directed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.

The Sultan had declared Monday, March 11, as the first day of Ramadan upon siting the Crescent of Ramadan, the ninth month of Islamic calendar.
