NAHCON directs states to remit Hajj by Friday

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has given Friday, April 28 as deadline for boards, agencies and commissions of State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare managers to remit 2023 Hajj fare.

Alhaji Zikrullah Hassan, Chairman of the commission gave the deadline during a meeting with Chief Executives of State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards and other stakeholders in Abuja

The NewsZenith reports that that meeting was convened to address critical issues around remittances of Hajj fare.

This is in order to finalise the number of eligible enrollees for the 2023 Hajj from Nigeria.

According to Hassan, the number of enrolled pilgrims would determine the number of airlines to sign agreements with 2023 hajj operation.

He said the Commission would work with any amount remitted to it by Friday’s deadline.

Subsequently, NAHCOM will sign agreements for the 2023 airlift to Saudi Arabia based on that number, he said.

The chairman explained that 50 per cent down payment to the air carriers is expected upon signing the agreement.

Another 35 per cent would follow after the deployment of aircraft for the airlift of pilgrims by the carriers.

Hassan lamented that the remittance had to take this long bearing in mind that all other arrangements depend on the confirmed number of pilgrims who pay Hajj fare.

The NewsZenith recalls that the deadline for Hajj fare remittance was extended severally since January.

Meanwhile, the screening of first batch of medical personnel for the 2023 Hajj will hold on Thursday, May 27.

Orientation and other ceremonies would follow after the confirmation of successful candidates.
