The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has directed Muslim Ummah to look out for the new Moon of Rabi Al-Thani 1444AH effect from Tuesday.
Rabi Al-Thani is the fourth month in the Islamic calendar, which comes after the month of Rabi Al-Awwal during which the majority of Muslims celebrate Maulid, the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Sallahu Alay Wasalam).
The Sultan gave the directive in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto on Monday.
“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Oct. 25 which is equivalent to the 29th day of Rabi Al-Awwal 1444AH shall be the day to look out for the new moon of Rabi Al-Thani 1444AH.
“Muslims are, therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon on Tuesday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan,’’ he said.
Abubakar further prayed to Allah to assist the Muslim Ummah in the discharge of their religious duties.
