Police arraign 8 for allegedly mutilating dead body.

The Police, on Friday in Ibadan, arraigned eight men for allegedly cutting a dead person’s body parts.

The defendants include Waheed Tijani, 50; Taiwo Yunusa, 38; Afeez Ariyo, 43 and Kazeem Tejumaje, 47.

Others are Abdulrasheed Tanimola, 55; Muritala Kewulere, 65; Dauda Azeez, 52 and Abdulhakeem Oriola, 51.

They appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court, Ibadan in Oyo State.

The Police docked the defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, for allegedly cutting a dead man’s body parts.

They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and disregard for the corpse.

The Prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on Dec. 13, in the Gbedun area, Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendants improperly interfered with the corpse of one late Nimotalahi Amidu by cutting off her head and body parts.

Amusan said the offence contravened Sections 517 and 242(1) of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Akande granted them N50,000 bail each with one surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 22, 2023, for a hearing.
