Ports Authority promotes 1,500 workers

Lagos, June 20, ’25 (TNZ) Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has reiterated the importance of human capital development as the key strategy for creating and sustaining superior performance under his administration.

TheNewsZenith reports that Dantshoho’s remarks is contained in a statement by the General Manager Corporate & Strategic Communications of NPA, Mr Ikechukwu Onyemekara.

According to the statement, NPA boss made the remarks after receiving commendation from the Maritime Workers Union (MWUN) and the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASGOC).

TheNewsZenith reports that the two bodies lauded Dantsoho for clearing the age-long problem of employee stagnation.

He explained that talent development constituted a critical success factor for the actualising the goals they had set for themselves.

“The only way we can meet stakeholders’ expectations is to deepen competencies of our human resources assets. And, to boost their morale.

“I commend the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, for approving the strategic proposal of the management team.

“The proposal has helped to solve over a decade-long problem of lack of promotion that have caused industrial disharmony.

“I specially appreciate our minister for graciously approving the multi-pronged stratagem we deployed that cleared all outstanding cases of employee stagnation.

“We conducted promotion examinations in one fell swoop and instituted timelines to forestall a recurrence of such anomaly,” TheNewsZenith quotes Dantsoho as saying.

He also said that ports infrastructure and equipment modernisation drive would go hand in hand with continuous staff welfare improvement.

Speaking on behalf of the joint maritime labour unions, the President of SSASCGOC, Comrade Akinola Bodunde, lauded the NPA management for clearing the backlog of promotion of deserving staff.

“In addition to this clearance, we appreciate NPA’s management for increasing productivity bonuses.

“We also thank the ports management for providing end-of-year welfare packages for staff.

“We appreciate the revision of the Financial Guide to the Condition of Service. This will now address our members’ concerns about inflationary pressures,” Bodunde said. (TNZ)
