A gale of reactions and condolences has trailed the death of a Media Icon, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, who died in Abuja, on Monday, at 71.
The NewsZenith reports that his son, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr. announced his death in a statement.
“High Chief Dokpesi was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
“High Chief Dokpesi was also a respected and accomplished businessman, a pioneer in the media industry and a philanthropist.
“He dedicated his life to the service of his country and his community.
“His legacy will live on through the impact he made on the lives of many,” Dokpesi (Jnr) said.
Reacting, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Dokpesi, who died at an Abuja hospital.
In a statement on Monday, Tinubu described death of the media mogul as huge loss to Nigeria.
“The death of Chief Dokpesi is a blow to media industry, where he has played pioneering roles in private broadcasting.
“His pacesetting investment in the industry is an inspiration to many who come after him.
“The history of the evolution of the Nigerian media industry will be incomplete without prominent mention of Dokpesi and his giant footprints on the media landscape.
“I express my sincere condolences to the management and staff of DAAR Communications and the family of the late media entrepreneur for this monumental loss,” Tinubu stated.
Similarly, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State mourned the passage of the late media icon.

In a condolence statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu described him as accomplished businessman and pioneer in the private media industry.
The governor said late Dokpesi was a true titan of the media industry.
Lagos State chapter of the PDP described the death of the Chairman, DAAR Communications and Founder of AIT and Ray Power FM, Dokpesi.
It described the passage of Dokpesi as a rude shock, a great loss and painful to the party.
Dokpesi was a Chieftain of the PDP and strong ally of former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar.
PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Hakeem Amode, commiserated with the family, members of staff and management of DAAR Communications.
Amode said in a statement in Lagos that PDP would miss Dokpesi.
“The death of founder of AIT and Raypower, Chief Dokpesi, got to the Lagos PDP as a rude shock.
“The news of death of the successful businessman and a strong member of our party amazed us,” the statement read in part.
