Reps praise DSS for tackling terrorism, kidnapping

The Green Chamber of the National Assembly has applauded the Department of State Services (DSS) for curtailing the spate of insecurity in the country.

Chairman, House Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Sha’aban Sharada, gave the commendation while on oversight visit to the DSS headquarters in Abuja.

Sharada remarked that the role of the security outfit has impacted positively on the well-being of the citizenry.

He said that kidnapping, banditry and terrorism have been reduced to the barest minimum through the efforts of the DSS.

The lawmaker, particularly commended the Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi, for transforming the service to “attain prominence” in protecting Nigerians.

“The service was informed about the committee’s interest to carry out the oversight during your recent appearance for budget defence,” he said.

“The objective of the exercise is to evaluate your performance in implementing the 2022 budget.

“It is also to know how you are discharging your constitutional mandate on service delivery through public expenditure management.

“On behalf of our committee, I appreciate working with your organisation cordially for over three years.

“The mutual corporation has facilitated the organisational achievement of crime reduction through effective intelligence service.”

He thanked the management of the state security service, under the leadership of Yusuf Bichi, for his excellent performance.

He described Bichi as “a man of honour, vision and integrity”.

Earlier, Bichi pledged that DSS would continue to spend its budgetary allocation judiciously.

“All you have seen wouldn’t have been possible without your support.

“Whatever that is appropriated to us, we will use it judiciously,” he said.

The director general thanked the leadership of the national assembly for their tireless support of the service.
