Residents of the Tse-Adi in Makurdi Local Government of Benue State have applauded Gov. Hyacinth Alia for setting in motion, the construction of the major road in their community, which previous governments have abandoned.

A correspondent of TheNewsZenith who visited the community on Tuesday, reports that residents were elated by the news that the governor had approved the contract for the project.

They showered encomium on the governor for remembering their community that had been deprived of passable roads for a long time.

One of the residents, Mr Simon Azembe, told TheNewsZenith that when completed, the road would enhance the economic activities of the community.

Azembe added that the road would also reduce the travel time on the route drastically.

According to him, more than 800 households would benefit from the road project.

He further said that Alia would leave a lasting legacy as a champion of rural development

By completing the project, he said the governor would have created a lasting legacy as “a Champion of rural development”.

He requested the state government to also assist the community by upgrading electricity distribution in the area.

“People of the Tse-Adi community kindly request Alia to provide a 500KVA electricity transformer and upgrade the existing power distribution infrastructure in the area,” Azembe said.

Also speaking to TheNewsZenith, a community leader, Mr Benedict Akaanan, said the road would greatly relieve commuters. It would also boost economic activities in the community.

Akaanan said that with the road, residents could easily commute in and out of the area.

“We are extremely thankful to Governor Alia for this life-changing project,” he said.

However, another community leader, Mr James Adaga, appealed to the governor to provide an electricity transformer to complement the project.

“The community has been experiencing frequent power outages, hindering economic growth and daily life.

“A reliable electricity supply would complete the transformation of our community.

“We appealed to the governor to consider our request and bring light to Tse-Adi,” Adaga said.

Another resident, Mrs Dorcas Mnguter, said the Alia administration has impacted positively on people in the community.

Mnguter assured that the community would continue to support the governor’s development initiatives.

“We look forward to his continued investment in our well-being.

“We appreciate the governor’s commitment to rural development,” TheNewsZenith quotes Mnguter as saying.
