The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received more than 200 people who decamped from various political parties into its fold in Andoni Local Government of Rivers State.

The NewsZenith reports that Mr Victor Ere, Chairman of PDP in the local government, welcomed the defectors at Ngo, the Council’s headquarters shortly after an empowerment programme.

The Council Chairman, Erastus Awortu, had presented N6 million in agricultural grants to 50 female farmers as part of his campaign promises in the area.

Represented by his Vice Chairman, Mr Titus Jonse, the party chairman assured the new members, of equal opportunities in PDP.

Ere urged the decamped men to identify with the party’s programmes and ideologies.

He, however, advised new members to guide against being misled by selfish individuals or groups.

“Such individuals or groups do not mean well for the party,” he said.

According to him, such individuals parade themselves as leaders to cause bad blood and division in the PDP.

“Awortu, the Council Chairman, is the authentic leader of our Party in Andoni.

“I urge you all to feel free to confirm matters that may seem contrary to the growth of our great party,” he said.

Mr Ezekiel Warigbani, a defector and former governorship candidate of Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance, said he joined PDP because of its people-oriented administration in the state.

“When an administrator begins to demonstrate those qualities one always yearns for, the best decision is to join forces with such a leader.

“The council Chairman, Awortu who is also the party leader at the grassroots is a dynamic and people-oriented leader.

“He has demonstrated love by giving back to the people who trusted him with their votes.

“His administration has restored peace in warring communities.

“Now, we freely go about our legitimate businesses, a situation that was almost impossible two years ago,” Warigbani said.

According to him, his community, Egbomung is the first beneficiary of the Council chairman’s developmental strides.

Also, Miss Atisi Clifford, who left African Democratic Congress, thanked the PDP for accepting the decampees.

She said joining the PDP is a stepping stone in her political aspirations.

“PDP is a symbol of courageous politics.

“I am happy to be part of this new family and pledge absolute loyalty to the party,” Clifford said.
