Salary: Zamfara detects 200 ghost medical doctors

Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, on Saturday, said the state government has discovered 199 ghost medical doctors in its payroll.

Matawalle announced the discovery during this chat with newsmen in Maradun town, Maradun Local Government Area of the state.

The discovery came to the limelight during the recent workers’ verification exercise for the implementation of the N30,0000 new national minimum wage.

“We discovered that in payroll, we have 280 medical doctors receiving salary monthly.

“But only 81 are genuine doctors while the remaining 199 are ghost workers.

“This is among the major challenges affecting the full implementation of the minimum wage for workers in the state.

`Full implementation of the new wage started in Nov. 2022 under my administration.

“We are working with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other stakeholders to address the problem,” the governor said.

He noted that his administration was ready to ensure the prompt payment of workers’ salaries and their general welfare.

“I have built 450 houses for the civil servants and I will hand over the houses to them very soon.”

Matawalle maintained that the state government is not owing civil servants salaries.

“I have paid all salaries of government workers for November and December, 2022,” Matawalle insisted. (END)
