Saudi Authorities announces sighting of Shawwal Cresent

Saudi Arabia Authorities, on Thursday officially announced sighting of new Cresent of Shawwal to herald the end of Ramadan.

A verified twitter handle of the two holy mosques of Makkah and Madinah, ‘Haramain Sharifain’ announced the sighting of Shawwal Cresent.

”The physical search for the new monn was carried our by a team of astronomers led by Dr Abduallah Khudair,” the Twitter message read in part

Consequently, Muslims will celebrate the Eid-Ul-Fitr, on Friday, April 21, throughout thel world, according to Gulf News.

With the end of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan, Muslims worldwide are gearing up to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 2023.

The NewsZenith reports that the Lunar months are either 29 or 30 days long.

Muslims, typically have to wait until the night before Eid (today Thursday) to confirm the date through sighting of the moon.

For countries that started Ramadan on March 24, local moon sighters will scan the horizon after sunset on Friday, April 21, to search for the crescent moon.

Meanwhile, Muslims in Nigeria await the official announcement of the Eid celebration by their Leader the Sultan of Sokoto and the President General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.
