It was a joyous and relieving moment for the people of Lagos-West Senatorial District as their representative in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Sen. Idiat Adebule, distributed food items to them as palliative.
TheNewsZenith reports that about 10,000 citizens of her district benefited from the food packs containing various food items.
The items included rice, semovita, vegetable oil, garri, pasta and tomato paste.
The event was held at the Nigeria Police College Ground, Ikeja.
Addressing the gathering, Sen. Adebule remarked that the occasion marked the fulfilment of yet another promise to her people.
“One of my promises is to always stand by our people in times of need by distributing food items to about ten thousand citizens.”
She thanked the people for granting her the privilege of serving them as the Senator representing Lagos-West Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
“Our dear country is going through a rebirth under the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).
“It is a rebirth for economic prosperity, national stability, improved security and social justice for all.
“Nigeria is a unique country populated by highly motivated, vibrant, talented and brilliant young people as well as highly cerebral and experienced senior citizens.
“Therefore, we have no business with socio-economic failures. With abundant human and material resources at our disposal, nothing should hold us back from achieving our glory.
“That is the reason we all need to pull our energies together in support of President Tinubu’s policies and programmes.
As we grapple with the fallouts of the ongoing economic reforms, she said Nigerians must acknowledge that the rising cost of living crisis “is a global phenomenon and not peculiar to Nigeria”.
“As your Senator, my primary duties are to propose laws that will help us achieve our goals, represent the interest of my constituents, and oversee the executive arm of government to ensure better service delivery.
“However, during tough times like this, it is my responsibility to support my constituents through social intervention programmes.”
She recalled that in the last nine months, she had implemented three key support programmes for Lagos-West constituents.
These included regular distribution of food items during festive periods and supporting farmers with fertiliser in preparation for planting season.
Lastly, Adebule said she facilitated the training of 200 young people in fisheries at Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research.
“Each participant received a start-up capital of N100,000. This is my contribution towards integrating the young people of Lagos-West into the new drive for Marine Economy in Nigeria.
“Today, we are starting the distribution of ten thousand food packs. Each pack contains various food items such as rice, semovita, vegetable oil, garri, pasta and tomato paste.
Besides palliative distribution, Adebule said she has lined up various intervention programmes to better the lives of the citizens.
“I am happy to announce that shortly, I will reach out to senior citizens and widows as
part of our social intervention programme.
TheNewsZenith reports that top-notch in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos West District, including party Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Sen. Ganiu Solomon, Prince Rabiu Oluwa and representatives of traditional leaders graced the occasion.
