Sterling Oil wins at 2025 Nigeria ESG Summit

Lagos, May 24, ’25 (TNZ) Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Ltd. has won the Outstanding Oil and Gas Company Award at the 2025 National Sustainability Achievements Awards.

TheNewsZenith reports that ESG Impact Consulting Ltd. organised the award at the Oriental Hotel on Thursday, in Lagos.

The theme of this year’s award is “Nigeria’s Green Transition Efforts & Climate Change Revolution”.

It brought together leaders championing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices across Nigeria’s public and private sectors.

Sterling Oil stood among Nigeria’s top corporations for its exceptional strides in sustainable energy innovation, climate resilience, and community-focused development.

The award recognises the company’s leadership in integrating green practices into core operations while demonstrating scalable solutions for the oil and gas industry.

Key highlights of Sterling Oil’s ESG performance include the conversion of over 90 per cent of its vehicle fleet to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), reducing emissions across operational sites.

It also upgraded its marine barges to double-hull vessels for enhanced environmental protection.

Sterling Oil also pursued an aggressive flare gas recovery programme to convert waste gas into usable energy.

It acquired on-site waste recycling infrastructure, which is capable of processing 100 kilogrammes per hour, among others.

The ceremony also honoured leading ESG performers, including Dangote Sugar, BUA Foods, Ikeja Hotels Plc, and Africa Prudential Plc, among others.

Mr Dada Ajai-Ikhile (ARPA), Chairman of the Organising Committee, commended Sterling Oil for its bold ESG leadership.

“Sterling Oil exemplifies what it means to lead in the face of climate challenges.

“Their innovative approach to sustainability sets a powerful precedent for others to follow,” Ajai-Ikhile remarked.

TheNewsZenith reports that the summit featured high-level panels on climate risk management, data-driven ESG strategy, and technological innovations.

All these are reportedly shaping Nigeria’s journey to net-zero emissions. (TNZ)
