The Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), has allayed the fear of a possible collapse of the Tiga Dam in Kano State.

TheNewsZenith reports that Alhaji Ma’amun Ali, the Managing Director of HJRBDA, said the dam “is in good condition and there should be no cause for alarm”.

Ali gave the assurance in an interactive session with journalists after an assessment visit to the dam to ascertain its integrity, on Monday.

HJRBDA boss debunked rumours of a possible collapse, which may endanger the lives as recently happening in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He appealed to members of the public to remain calm, saying the dam crest “is in a good situation”.

“Given the recent happening in the country, viz-a-viz the rainfall prediction, we are here to debunk the rumours circulating the nation about the integrity of the dam.l

“The crest of Tiga dam and its embankment are in good condition.

“We expect to have a mild flow at the end of the month. This is as we travelled across the various crests. We noticed everything is in perfect condition,” TheNewsZenith quotes Ali as saying.

He urged the public to remain calm as the management of the dam was on top of the situation.

“The Maiduguri experience will not happen in Kano. We are doing our best to set things right and, God is in control of every situation here,” he added.
