The World Bank and Federal Government have appointed Mr AbdulHamid Umar as the National Project Coordinator for Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) in Nigeria.
The appointment is in a statement issued by Mr Olusegun Shogbola, Personal Assistant (Media & ICT) to Minister of Environment on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement, emailed to The NewsZenith on Friday, states that the appointment took effect in February.
The National Steering Committee of the project represented the Federal Government.
A seasoned administrator and consummate project manager, Umar will coordinate the $700 million project.
The scope of the project centred on watershed management, land remediation and restoration.
The National Project Coordinator will also develop a community resilience programme across the 19 participating states of Northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.

Until his appointment, Umar was the Director of Operations at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
He led the team that achieved the remarkable upscaling of the digital identity card enrolment figure.
The enrolment rose by over 1111 per cent from 7.2 million in 2017 to over 96 million.
Umar is actively involved in several multilateral funding support projects in Nigeria.
Prominent among his international engagements is the Chairman of UNHCR-UN Women Enrollment Project and South Korea’s intervention on enrolment support team.
He also participated in project identification, preparation and implementation stages of World Bank-funded $433 million Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (ID4D).
The ID4D is a $433 million World Bank project.
