Lagos, July 28, ’26 (TNZ) A community-based NGO, The Legends Support 4 Community Initiative, has called on stakeholders in the health sector to expand access to hepatitis testing, vaccination and treatment for Nigerians.
TheNewsZenith reports that The Legend made the appeal as Nigeria joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Hepatitis Day 2026.
President of the organisation, Sulaimon Ijaoba, reiterated this in a statement to commemorate World Hepatitis Day.
This is part of a statement issued by the NGO to highlight the importance of collective efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
According to him, viral hepatitis continues to affect millions of people globally despite advances in medical science.
He noted that many infected persons are unaware of their condition until irreversible liver damage has already occurred.
The NGO observed that inadequate awareness, poor access to healthcare and limited screening opportunities remain major obstacles to hepatitis.
“Preventing hepatitis-related deaths requires stronger investments in public health infrastructure and wider availability of vaccines.
“It also needs improved access to affordable diagnosis and treatment.

“We urged governments at all levels to prioritise sustained public health education to increase awareness of hepatitis transmission, prevention, and available treatment options,” TheNewsZenith quotes The Legend as stressing in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
The organisation maintained that special attention should be given to vulnerable populations.
“Stakeholders must ensure that healthcare services reach underserved communities through targeted interventions and community-based programmes.
According to the President, the organisation remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders to promote preventive healthcare.
It is also willing to help improve the well-being of Nigerians.
The NGO, therefore, appealed to citizens to support national efforts aimed at eliminating viral hepatitis.
“They can do this by ensuring regular health checks, vaccination and responsible health practices.
