Yahaya assures of FG, states collaboration on N/East security

Gov. Yahaya Inuwa of Gombe

Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State says he will foster collaboration between the Northern Governors’ Forum and the Federal Government in solving the security challenges in the Northeast.

Yahaya spoke with State House correspondents after a private meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Tuesday, in Abuja.

The governor attributed sustained peace in Gombe to diverse ethnic and religious groups in the state that co-existed cordially.

“There is peace in Gombe for so many reasons. One is the nature of our people. We are a mixture of several ethnic groups and religions living peacefully.

“Within a family, you can find people of different faiths but sharing the same parents.

“Because of that, the background is so okay that we now build on it and coordinate the relationships.

“Secondly, the government is focused and is working with the security agencies to ensure compliance with law and order,” the governor said.

In the Northeast, he said there were challenges of land resources among farmers involved in crop production and livestock.

Yahaya listed cases of cattle rustling and kidnapping as some of the teething problems in the Northeast.

In between that is the issue of encroachment of grassing reserves, forest reserves and even cattle routes.

“At the moment, we are focusing on maintaining peace by providing for everybody in a way that breeds understand and cooperation mong the people.

“As the chairman of NGF, I will ensure that we get to the root of all those problems through the support of the various state governments and the Federal Government itself.
