2023 census data’ll meet international standards – NPC

The National Population Commission (NPC) says it will generate quality data that will meet international standards in the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

Alhaji Nasir Kwarra, Chairman of the commission gave this assurance at the inauguration of the 2023 Census National Publicity Committee, Thursday in Abuja.

“The commission will deploy full digital technology in conducting the census.

”And it will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the result of the census is acceptable to Nigerians.

“We will generate quality that will meet international best standards,” Kwarra said.

He reiterated the vision of the 2023 Census, which is to produce reliable and acceptable census data.

He added it would also be an inclusive and user-friendly data for use  in development planning.

According to him, in all these, the need for advocacy, publicity and public enlightenment cannot be overemphasised.

The Chairman commended the Minister of Information and Culture for supporting the commission.

Kwarra spoke on the need to inform, educate and enlighten Nigerians about the scope of the census.

It will involve counting every person resident in Nigeria.

“Given this scenario, information they say ‘rules the world’ as such, targeted advocacy and sustained publicity is no doubt imperative to the successful conduct of the census.

“This becomes crucial in view of the fact that the census is taking place after the 2023 General Elections.

“Therefore, the mobilisation of critical stakeholders to support the process to achieve the desired outcome is imperative.”

“It hinges on our ability to mobilise people to participate in the 2023 Census,” NPC boss said.

Kwarra said the commission would rely on the committee’s expertise and structures to drive the message to every household.

He promised to organise a workshop for members of the committee on processes of the 2023 population and housing census.
