One dies in multiple accidents on Lagos/Ibadan expressway

One person died in a multiple accident that occurred on the Kara bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday.

The NewsZenith reports that the accident involved an 18-seater commercial bus belonging to GUO motors, a MAC truck, an SUV car and others vehicles.

The multiple accidents paralysed movement and left motorists and travellers on the ever-busy road stranded in traffic gridlock.

It caused heavy gridlock on the bridge inwards OPIC, which has also extended beyond Berger, affecting inbound movement to Lagos.

As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders confirmed only one person dead in the crash.

They identified the victim as a hawker.

Dr Olugbemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the accident.

Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency responded to distress call from the accident scene promptly.

”Upon arrival at the scene, we gathered that a containerised truck on motion lost control, causing the multiple crashes.

“Brake failure resulted in the accident involving seven vehicles.

”The crash severely impacted a GUO transport bus and a Volkswagen, as the Volkswagen fell under the Kara bridge,” the LATSMA boss said.

He confirmed that, one adult male died while a second adult male sustained several injuries.
