Accident claims 4 lives on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

At least, four persons died in a lone accident involving a commercial bus on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hour of Sunday in Ogun State.

The NewsZenith gathered that 11 other passengers in the bus, marked AGL989YA, sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident at the Aiyetoro axis on the expressway.

The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday in Abeokuta.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of TRACE, said in a statement that a tyre burst caused the accident at 9.59 a.m.

Akinbiyi stated that the bus somersaulting into a ditch due to the impact of the tyre burst.

According to him, the bus carried 15 passengers, comprising three men and 12 women when the accident happened.

He said 11 women sustained injuries while three men and one woman died in the accident.

“According to an eyewitness account, the bus was coming from Ibadan inbound Lagos when it had a tyre burst.

“This cause the bus to somersaulting into a ditch,” Akinbiyi said.

A rescue team of TRACE has deposited the bodies of the deceased at the Idera morgue in Sagamu while the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe.

The PRO advised drivers to avoid excessive speed, use of tokunbo tyres and uphold simple traffic rules and regulations.
