Anambra rice sharing stampede: many Feared dead

Many residents are fear dead after a stampede occurred where people try to get rice ration, on Saturday in Okija, Anambra State.

TheNewsZenith reports that residents trampled upon one another as they try to get their share of rice from a philanthropy, Obi Jackson.

Many social media users shared picture of the unfortunate incident.

TheNewsZenith reports that Jackson, who is the Chairman of Nestoil, anually organised the Christmas event to put a smile on the faces of indigenes in Okija.

An eyewitness source said that some pregnant women and children were among victims of the stampede.

The source noted that the victims’ bodies were being filmed at the Lady’s Mortuary in the Ihiala area.

”These are the people that died at Obi Jackson’s home this morning, people that went to collect rice,” the source said.

TheNewsZenith recalls that on Wednesday in Ibadan, Oyo State, there was similar stampede during which 32 children also died.

The children and their parents had visited  a High School in the Basorun area of Ibadan for children’s Christmas party.

An ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola hosted the party.

The incident has since stirred controversies as the Oyo State Government has launched an investigation into the case.
