The Dangote Humanitarian Foundation, at the weekend, flagged off the distribution of 120,000 bags of 10kg rice to indigents in Kano.
Speaking at the event, held at the Kano State Government House, the founder, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, described the gesture as a journey of compassion, solidarity and responsibility.
Dangote said the gesture was part of his Community Social Responsibility (CRS) to alleviate the suffering in the country.
He said more than one million bags of 10-kilogramme of rice will reach one million vulnerable people across the country.
The founder puts the cost of the rice at over N15 million.
According to him, Kano State will get more allocations due to the large population and poverty level.
“Our goal is to extend our reach across the 36 States, including the Federal Capital Territory, to ensure that Nigerians benefit from the distribution.
“The distribution goes along with the ongoing daily feeding programme for 10,000 people and the provision of 10,000 daily Iftar meals in Kano Municipality,” Dangote said.

He also recalled that the foundation had been distributing loaves of bread in Kano and Lagos since the COVID-19 era.
“The group is also working on the nutrition agenda. It has also made significant strides in food fortification, investing in iodized salt and Vitamin fortification of sugar.
“Access to nutritious foods is not only a basic human right but critical to determining family well-being.”
In his remarks, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf said the gesture of the foundation distribution of rice would relieve vulnerable people during Ramadan.
Yusuf appealed to other wealthy individuals and corporate organisations to emulate Dangote’s gesture by supporting the needy.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting the state with grains to ease economic hardship.
“The distribution committee has trusted members of Hisbah, who will ensure transparency and fairness in sharing the food items.
“Many citizens must benefit from the gesture which will bring more of Allah’s blessing to our community,” the governor said.
