Borno to hold council election May 20

Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC) has fixed  May 20 for the conduct of the local government council election in the state.

The Commission’s Director of Information, Hajiya Zara Alhassan, announced this in a statement on Saturday in Maiduguri.

Alhassan quoted BOSEIC’s Chairman, Lawan Maina, as announcing this in a meeting with leadership of political parties and stakeholders.

“The commission has announced the date for the local government council election to take place on May 20, 2023.

“This is by the virtue of the powers conferred on the commission under Section 10 and 18 (a) of BOSIEC Law, 2002,” Maina said.

He assured of the commission’s readiness to conduct a free, fair and credible election in all the 27 Local Government councils of the state.

The chairman called for cordial relationship among all registered political parties and BOSIEC.

He pointed out the importance of mutual trust and understanding among stakeholders for the success of the election.

Maina reiterated BOSIEC’s commitment to justify confidence reposed in it by political parties to provide level playing field for all.

Representatives of 14 political parties and security agencies attended the meeting.
