Buhari urges Nigerians to be responsible for better change

President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Nigerians on the need to act right to achieve a better society and make the country economically and politically great.

Buhari gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, held in Gusau on Saturday.

Represented by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isah Ali Pantami, Buhari said each citizen is responsible for bringing changes in the nation’s socio-economic and political problems.

“Although leaders have greater role to play, every Nigerian needs to act right to achieve a better society,” he said.

The president also called on leaders at all levels to exhibit justice, fairness and kindness when dealing with their subjects.

The followers are to respect leaders and remain law-abiding citizens, Buhari said.

He noted that if followers respect the rule of law, we will achieve a better Nigeria.

The Presiden commended the Sultanate Council and Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, for introducing and sustaining the Qur’anic Recitation Competition across the federation.

They have organised the competition over the last 37 years.

Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III said the Sultanate Council will ensure that reciters engage in research and study of the Qur’an.

This, Sultan said, will be in collaboration with Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto,

He urged reciters to ponder on Qur’anic study as a means of returning peace and stability to the country.

Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, thanked the National Committee of Musabaka for giving the state opportunity to host the competition.

He said his administration had given priority to the promotion of Islamic teaching through the establishment of 11 Sharia Institutions.

Nura Abdullahi of Sokoto State emerged as the overall winner of the competition.

He was, thereafter, crowned the hero of the year by the Sultan.

Aishatu Abdulmutallab from Yobe won the female category.

She was crowned as the hero of the year by the wife of the Zamfara State governor, Aisha Bello Matawalle.
