Conductor dies in lone accident in Anambra

A lone accident at Tarzan junction along the Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra has claimed the life of a conductor.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the accident to newsmen, on Thursday, in Awka.

Irelewuyi said one of the vehicle’s  tyres burst in motion, resulting in the accident, which occurred at 4.30 p.m.

He said the accident involved a commercial Mercedes truck with registration number -WKR824XA.

“According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control of the loaded truck due to a tyre burst, causing the vehicle to fall.

“Two male adults, the driver and conductor, were involved in the crash.

“The driver sustained some degree of injuries while his conductor died on the spot.

“Before the FRSC arrival at the scene, the FRSC rescue team and the Ogidi Police Division personnel had taken the corpse to the morgue.

“As we speak, traffic control is ongoing, while the vehicle is being offloaded,” he said.

The Sector Commander commiserated with the family of the deceased. He also urged motorists to check their tyres before embarking on a journey.

He also emphasised the importance of spare tyres on all vehicles.
