Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Onne Area 11 Command in Rivers State, has inaugurated a new secretariat complex housing a canteen and unisex saloon, TheNewsZenith reports.
The Association also donated food items to some widows of the command as part of efforts to improve on welfare of officers’ families.
During the inauguration on Thursday in Onne, National President of COWA, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, advised officers to encourage their spouses to participate in COWA activities.
Adeniyi said there are enormous benefits women could derive from the association. COWA has, since its inception, continued to initiate tangible projects that impact humanity, she said.
The president commended the Onne Command for the collaboration, which she said had enabled COWA activities to thrive.

“These programmes are in line with COWA’s objectives, which are geared toward improved welfare of members,” she said.
Earlier, Mrs Yakaka Imam, wife of the Onne Commandant and host at the event, thanked the president for visiting the Onne chapter of the Association.
Imam pledged the chapter’s continued support for the ideal of the association.
Meanwhile, some beneficiaries of the food items have commended COWA for the kind gesture.
One of them, Mrs Ogba Joan, remarked that the cash gifts, rice and other consumables formed part of items distributed to widows.
