The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has intercepted some amunitions and arrest two suspects in One near Port Harcourt, TheNewsZenith reports.
The Comptroller of Rivers Command, Baba Imam, told newsmen, on Friday in One, that the Customs have handed the suspects over to the Police.
TheNewsZenith quotes Imam as saying the command also generated over N246 billion between January and October.
He attributed achievements to renewed mindset engendered by training and retraining of officers as well as availability of adequate logistics and incentives.
According to him, the command confiscated nine containers, with duty value of over N1.16 billion.
”Our operatives seized the goods concealed in nine containers on grounds of contravening import prohibition laws.
“The containers contained 724 bales of used clothing, 1,805 pieces of used tyres and four vehicles used in concealment of 76.9kg cannabis and 2,070 cartons of Tomato paste.
”Other items in the container confiscated are 1,578 cartons of Barcadin cough syrup with codeine (100ml),” the Comptroller said.
He also said that the command generated over N246 billion from January to October.
This, he said, represented a significant increment of more than N44 billion generated in 2022 fiscal year.
In October alone, Imam explained that the command generated more than N38 billion. This exceeded its monthly revenue target of N28 billion.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ashu Ottah, who is in charge of operations of the Eastern Ports, took the delivery of the suspects and exhibits (Pistol and amunitions).
He also called for public participation for effective policing and crime reduction in the area.
”I’m pleased with the high level of synergy and commitment between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Police.
“Upon taking over the suspects and exhibits, the Police will continue its investigation,” Ottah said.
