NASENI to commercialise products through Tech transfers – Halilu

The National Agency for Science and Engineering (NASENI) is set to make its products and technologies available in every household in Nigeria in the next few years.

Mr Suleiman Halilu, Executive Vice-Chairman of the agency, announced this during his maiden interactions with the Media, on Thursday, in Abuja.
Halilu said some tangible products from NASENI’s prototypes would enter by the first quarter of 2024.

He said NASENI would place the products on the market through technology transfer arrangements.

“Expect some products from NASENI’s research and development efforts in the Nigeria market during the first quarter of 2024.

According to him, stakeholders’ expectations of NASENI are high in ensuring transparency and focus on delivering on its mandate.

“Part of my preoccupations, since assuming office in September, is to enhance the human capital potential of the Agency through improved motivation.

“This is to enable our staff to adjust to the proposed transformations in the system. Stakeholders’ engagements and efforts to rebrand the NASENI have remains my top priorities,” he said.

NASENI boss further explained that the era of stacking prototypes on shelves has ended. “All its products and technologies must find their way to the market.”

He said the management would do a national re-branding to put the agency’s products in every household in the country.

“In the next few years, this is what Nigerians should expect. We are no longer going to sit back to watch research and prototypes endlessly, keeping them on the shelves.”

He recalled that during NASENI’s trip to China, together with Vice President Kassshim Shettimah, Nigeria signed a $2 billion dollar partnership MOU for technology transfer into Nigeria with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Forum.

“We received many partners that provided letters of Intent to partner with us. They want to invest in Nigeria’s economy to the tune of $4 billion,” Halilu said.

According to him, the agency received letters of investment interest on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Electric Vehicles (EVs), Agricultural equipment, Electronics and Electrical equipment and many others.

Halilu recalled that NASENI is rigorously involve in many stakeholder engagements.

“The organisations are showing interest in NASENI’s activities for collaboration and product offtake.

“One of them is Rural Electrification Agency (REA), which has committed itself to a $200 million procurement agreement with NASENI.”
