The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended the Warri-Itakpe rail service after a train derailed at kilometre 30 Ajaokuta-Itakpe section of the track.
One hundred and forty-eight passengers and 30 crew were in the train which derailed on Sunday inside the Kogi forest.
There was no fatality or casualty, but passengers said they were stranded for several hours after the accident.
The coordinator of the Warri-Itakpe train service, Sanni Abdulganiyu, confirmed the accident.
Abdulganiyu added that the corporation immediately drafted security personnel to the scene.
He further stated that no fatality or casualty.
“The Warri-Itakpe train service WITS 01 derailed at about 12.30 noon on Jan. 22.
“We are yet to determine the cause of the derailment.
“Due to this incident, we have suspended the service along the corridor.

“We will communicate further details to members of the public,” Abdulganiyu said.
Many passengers reportedly abandoned the train for fear of kidnappers.
It was gathered that the train left Warri early on Sunday and got derailed at around noon inside the forest between Ajaokuta and Itakpe.
Abdulganiyu also issued a statement, saying “Thankfully, there was no fatality and no casualty.
“We received an alert about the accident.
“The local government chairman assisted in drafting security personnel comprising the Army, Police, NSCDC and the community vigilante to the accident point.
“All the 148 passengers and 30 crew members were evacuated to a safe place and arrangements were made to convey them to their various destinations.
