The Tinubu Media Volunteers have applauded the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to roll out Compressed Natural Gas as a cheaper alternative to petrol.

TMV gave the commendation in a statement emailed to TheNewsZenith on Friday evening.

It gave the applause following indication that CNG at N230 per kg, is far cheaper than petrol.

Chairman and Secretary of the group, Chukwudi Enekwechi and Shadrach Gyungoun, argued in the statement that the CNG initiative will provide motorists with improved engine efficiency.

It will also save them a high cost on engine maintenance.

“We take this position bearing in mind that the CNG is a cheaper source of energy that will sell at the price of N230 per litre.

“Apart from being cheaper than PMS, it is also a cleaner source of energy compared to petrol.

“Also, Nigeria will save foreign exchange since it has an estimated 187 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves.

“So, CNG is a wholly domesticated energy source as importation is eliminated.

“We are delighted that to make the CNG available to Nigerians, the federal government has recently placed an order for one million CNG kits.

“The government is also facilitating CNG conversion stations across the country,” TheNewsZenith quotes the TMV as stating.

According to the group, the use of CNG in powering vehicles would add to the lifespan of the vehicles.

“We acknowledge the government’s efforts to provide CNG as an alternative source of energy to Nigerians is in line with its target of achieving universal clean energy access by 2030.

It is also poised to meet the target of net-zero emissions by 2060.

The group implored Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity to consider switching to CNG as an alternative to petrol.
