The Transportation Correspondents Association of Nigeria (TCAN), says its maiden edition of the Nigeria Transport Sector Summit will address the intermodal transport challenges and prospects for Nigeria.

TheNewsZenith reports that TCAN Chairman, Mr Yinka Aderibigbe, announced this in a statement, on Monday, in Lagos.

Aderibigbe said the summit will hold annually to rally stakeholders for developmental discourse.

“It will be a forum where major industry players, regulators and other stakeholders brainstorm on germane issues in the transportation sector,” he stated.

The summit, with the theme: “Intermodal Transport: Prospects and Challenges” will come up on Oct. 17 in Lagos.

According to the statement, Transportation Minister, Sen. Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, will open the forum.

Also, former Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, will deliver the keynote address.

“The focus on intermodal transportation in the maiden edition of the annual summit is deliberate.

“It aims to bring together relevant stakeholders across all subsectors of the transport industry to form effective synergy.

“This is as against hitherto situation of working in silos and at cross-purposes.

“The working in silos and cross-purposes pose a greater challenge to achieving the dream of giving alternative travel modes to the Nigerian public,” TCAN chair stated.

According to Aderibigbe, such an arrangement would pave the way for greater efficiency through lower costs, operational flexibility and reduced carbon emission.

This is a key factor in a world committed to cleaner environmental impact that will ultimately benefit all.

“We have carefully selected a team of speakers to do justice to the issue under focus.

“A panel of discussants featuring some relevant members of the intelligentsia and heads of prominent agencies/organisations will speak to the sub-themes of the summit.”

The subthemes topics are weaved around railway, road, inland waterways and aviation sub-sectors of the transportation industry.

The occasion will feature the unveiling of the association’s industry journal.
