Gunmen abduct four, shot one in C/River

Mrs Rose Bassey, a former Accountant General of Cross River State and three others have been abducted at the Uyanga axis on the Calabar-Ogoja highway.

Gunmen, who laid siege on the busy highway, abducted the persons, by shooting at the motorists to force them to stop.

They shot a popular evangelist, Edim Edim Omin during the milieu leading to the abduction of four persons.

The evangelist, who escaped with a bullet wound, is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Calabar.

The incident is coming barely 24 hours that the state Police Command claimed it had deployed a tactical team of Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad to that axis.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the state Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed Tuesday’s incident.

Ugbo said the Command was working around to rescue the four abducted persons unharmed.

She reiterated the Command’s resolve to return normalcy to that highway.

“It is a sad reality for us.

“I speak, the Commissioner of Police is heading to that axis to access situation of things himself,” she said.

Recalled that the Uyanga-Ikomita axis of the Calabar-Ogoja highway has become notorious for kidnappers in the last two months.

Kidnappers have abducted no fewer than 20 people, including two medical doctors, on that highway.

The abduction of the medical doctors led to industrial action by the state Nigeria Medical Association, demanding their release.
