Lagos, Feb. 2, ’25 (TNZ) The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to investigate allegations of a ₦480 million bribery scheme involving Nigerian lawmakers.
TheNewsZenith reports that HEDA’s Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, condemned the bribery allegation in a statement issued in Lagos.
Suraju stated that bribery undermines Nigeria’s education sector and governance.
According to an investigative report by Premium Times, members of the Senate and House Committees on Education allegedly demanded bribes from vice-chancellors of federal universities in exchange for approving their 2025 budget allocations.

HEDA’s chairman urged President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly leadership to take firm action against corruption within the legislature.
HEDA, a civil society organisation (CSO), also called on university administrators, other CSOs and the public to resist and expose corruption in the education sector.
It demands that those responsible should be prosecuted to restore accountability and trust in governance. (TNZ)
