Abuja, Jan. 7, ’25 (TNZ) The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has dismissed 27 officers for fraud-related misconduct.

TheNewsZenith reports that the anti-graft agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewole, announced the dismissal in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Oyewole said the dismissal followed recommendations from the agency’s Staff Disciplinary Committee.

Mr Ola Olukoyede, EFCC’s Executive Chairman, has ratified the dismissal.

“To enforce integrity and get rid of fraudulent elements, EFCC dismissed 27 officers from its workforce in 2024.

“Their dismissal, following the recommendation of the Staff Disciplinary Committee of the EFCC, was ratified by the Chairman, Ola Olukoyede,” TheNewsZenith quotes the statement as read in part.

Olukoyede reiterated the commission’s commitment to zero tolerance for corruption. He warned that “no officer is immune to disciplinary measures”.

“The core values of the commission are sacrosanct and we will always hold this in optimal regard.”

EFCC also alerted the public about the activities of impersonators and blackmailers, exploiting the name of its Executive Chairman to extort money from high-profile suspects.

“Two members of a syndicate, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were recently arraigned before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja.

“They are facing charges for contacting a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority and demanding $1 million to secure a “soft landing” on a non-existent investigation.

“There are also some similar criminal elements, still at large,” TheNewsZenith quoted the agency as stating. It urged the public to report such individuals. (TNZ)
