KNSG to activate, supports 250 cooperative groups

Kano State Government says it will activate and support 250 cooperative groups across the state to empowerment strategy.

Alhaji Jamilu Abbas Kiru, the Special Adviser to Gov. Kabiru Abba Yusuf on Cooperatives, announced this while interacting with some newsmen on Sunday in Kano.

Kiru, a former member of the House of Representatives, said Gov. Yusuf has a comprehensive socio-economic development plan for the people of the state.

TheNewsZenith reports that Kiru also the National President of the Market and Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN), said.

“He is determined to enhance commerce and industrialisation, energy, security as well as climate change initiatives in the state.

“The administration has equally resolved to deliver quality and accessible healthcare services, functional education, rural development and water supply,” the Special Adviser said.

He explained that the government would train and empower members of various cooperative societies, covering different trades like agriculture, commerce, handicrafts, artisans and transportation.

According to him, the empowerment strategy is in line with the current digitalisation of global economic activities.

“Majority of our people in rural areas lacked basic knowledge and benefits of cooperative activism. They don’t join cooperative societies.

“They are also deficient in modern Information Communication Technology (ICT) .”

The governor’s aide, therefore, assured that the government would assist by establishing and empowering cooperative groups.

He added that the government would also link members with banking institutions for easy access to intervention funds and ease their businesses.
