KNSG approves N7bn for capital projects

The Kano State Government has approved release of N7 billion for the execution of various capital projects across the state.

Malam Halilu Dantiye, the Commissioner for Information, announced to newsmen in Kano, on Thursday.
TheNewsZenith reports that the approvals are some of the outcomes of the two recent weekly State Executive Council meetings.
Dantiye explained that the projects were meant to address urgent public infrastructural and social services needs.
The government approved N1.6 billion for the Ministry of Works and Housing to complete the construction of the new office for Research and Documentation Directorate at Government House.
Other projects are the construction of covered sewage along the Jakara-Kwarin Gogau River and procurement of fairly used excavators and low beds for Kano Urban Development Authority (KNUPDA).
The ministry will also procure refuse collection equipment for Refuse Management and Sanitation Board and rehabilitate 11 selected metropolitan roads.
Similarly, Council approved N779 million for Ministry of Water Resources to settle three months’ electricity bills for water treatment plants.
The ministry will also procure 600 metric tons of Aluminium Sulphate for use at the treatment plants.
It will equally supply chemicals and carry out routine maintenance and technical services of the treatment plants.

Dantiye also said the Ministry of Transportation received approval to spend N37 million to repair the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA)’s grounded vehicles and revive its operation.
The commissioner also said the Ministry of Environment got approval to undertake annual drainage clearance for N5 million.
Similarly, the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) received N658 million as operational funds.
According to the commissioner, the Council approved N4.2 million for the Ministry of Land to expand the Zaria road project.
The Ministry of Science and Technology got N4.2 million approval to create and formulate Science, Technology and Innovation Policy.
The state executive council also decided to constitute a five-member committee to address the challenges facing the state Pension Fund Trustees in the implementation of contributory pension scheme.
