LASG shortlists Mota-Engil, Chinese ventures for $2.5 bln bridge

Lagos State Government has shortlisted a consortium, led by Portugal’s builder Mota-Engil and two Chinese ventures to build a $2.5 billion 4th Mainland bridge.

Jubril Gawat, a senior spokesperson for Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the shortlisted companies on Sunday in Lagos.

The bridge will relieve severe congestion on roads in the mega-city.

A public-private partnership arrangement is undertaking the construction of the 37-kilometre bridge.

It will include three toll plazas, nine interchanges and a design speed of 120 kilometres per hour.

Mota-Engil is partnering with China Communication and Construction Corporation and China Road and Bridge Corporation in the bid.

Also shortlisted are China Gezhouba Group Company, China Geo-Engineering Corporation joint venture and a consortium led by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

Gawat said the government will announce the winner of the bid before the end of the year.
