Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, took the oath of office to become the sixth governor of Osun State.
Chief Judge of Osun, Justice Adepele Ojo, administered the oath of office on Adeleke at the Osogbo City Stadium.
The NewsZenith report that shortly after taking the oath of office, Adeleke immediately announced the freezing of the state’s accounts.
Justice Ojo had earlier administered the oath of allegiance to Mr Kola Adewusi, the new Deputy Governor.
Adeleke succeeded former Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He directed an immediate return to the status quo ante of all appointments, placements and other significant decisions taken by Oyetola’s administration from July 17.
Adeleke said he would set up a panel to conduct an inventory of government assets and recover those in the wrong hands.
Government Insignias:
on government insignias, Adeleke ordered immediate reversal to the Constitutionally-recognised state name as “Osun State” from the former ‘State of Osun’.
A former governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, now Minister of Interior, changed the name from Osun State.
“Under my watch as the governor of Osun, I will boldly correct all past injustices, corrupt acts or policies by any previous administration, which are against the collective interest of our people,” he said.
He vowed that all directives he gave on Sunday would be backed with appropriate executive orders.
Adeleke pledged that as governor, he would strive to meet people’s expectations, especially on security matters.

The new governor said his administration would demonstrate a high sense of transparency, justice and innovation.
He reiterated his commitment to solving the problems of poverty, illiteracy, disease and poor infrastructure in the state.
“I know that as a product of the collective will of you my people, there is a heavy weight of history on my shoulders and I accept the urgency of your expectations.
“The depth of your aspirations and your conviction in me to build a better state will not be misplaced.’’
He said that all unfavourable policies would be reviewed according to the law.
Workers Welfare:
On workers’ welfare, Adeleke assured labour unions of his administration’s willingness to protect workers’ interests and promote their welfare.
“I will be labour-friendly,” Adeleke promised the organised labour bodies.
He frowned at what he described as mass employment by the immediate past administration without financial backing.
He pleaded with workers to give him a few weeks to sort out all “malicious actions and confusions’’ allegedly created by the immediate past administration.
Campaign Promises:
On his campaign promises, the governor pledged to fulfil his campaign promises.
The promises included the welfare of workers and pensioners; boosting the state’s economy, a home-grown infrastructure and people-focused policies.
Others are affordable healthcare, security, social welfare and agro-based industrialisation.

“I now extend a strong hand of fellowship to the other arms of government – the Legislature and Judiciary.
“As a former lawmaker, I appreciate the importance of collaboration between the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.
“I call on all political parties to unite in the state’s best interest.
“The election is over; now is the time for governance.
“We are open to fresh ideas in line with our manifesto.”
Dignitaries at the inauguration included PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, Govs. Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom.
Others are PDP National Chairman, Mr Iyiorcha Ayu and former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Douye Diri of Bayelsa.
