The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) is test-running its new Omibus ferry service and will begin commercial operations on Monday, a top official announced.

TheNewsZenith reports that Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, LASWA’s General Manager, announced in a statement on Friday that Omibus will revolutionise waterway commuting in Lagos.

“We are happy to announce the Omibus pilot programme launching on July 29.

“This initiative, powered by the Ministry of Transportation and LASWA aims to revolutionise waterway commuting in Lagos.

“Join us for a week of testing our Omibus ferries, collecting essential data, and increasing public awareness about the future of waterway transportation in Lagos,” Emmanuel stated.

He said the pilot morning trip from Ikorodu – Ebute Ero to CMS, would depart from Ikorodu by 7.00 a.m.

“Other departures at the same time are Ikorodu – Victoria Island (Addax) – Falomo and Badore – Victoria Island (Addax) – Falomo.

“For evening trips: the ferry will depart CMS to Ikorodu by 4.30 p.m., from Falomo to Ikorodu by 5.30 p.m. and from Falomo to Badore by 5.30 p.m.,” he stated.

The GM assured that the commuters would experience the Omibus ferries first-hand during the pilot phase.

He added that passengers would need to pay with their Cowry Card. He explained that they should simply tap in with their Cowry card to board.

“We are gathering feedback to refine our service for the full launch.

“The design of the ferry meets international safety standards and offers a comfortable and secure journey.

“Our ferries are internationally recognised for safety and quality, providing a top-notch travel experience.
